The crisis in Syria continues to escalate...
An estimated 11 million Syrians have fled their homes since the outbreak of the civil war in 2011.
6 years on, 13.5 million are in need of humanitarian assistance in Syria.
The majority escaping the conflict have sought refuge in neighbouring countries or within Syria itself. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 4.8 million have fled to Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, and 6.6 million are displaced within Syria.
Meanwhile, approximately one million have requested asylum in Europe; Germany, with over 300,000 cumulated applications and Sweden with 100,000 are EU’s top receiving countries.
As we see this tragedy unfold before us, surely there is something we can do? Is it not time for us to step forward and help them?
We have an incredibly generous community and many have helped already, but there is still so much more that can and needs to be done.
Why are Grass-Roots Organisations Needed?
